Cybersecurity for your business and remote workers during lockdown

If your staff are working at home during this period, perhaps using unfamiliar IT equipment or working in a different-to-normal environment, they might present an easy and unsuspecting target.

Putting employees through a security awareness training course is one way to improve vigilance and awareness of the threats posed by scammers.

For this reason – and many others – it’s vital that businesses secure their now remote teams against these malicious threats.

Employees of SMBs (small- to medium-sized businesses) are particularly at risk, with 64% of all cyberattacks targeted at them.

Key among these is ransomware. In 2019 alone, ransomware attacks in the USA potentially cost government agencies more than $7.5 billion.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, the scammers know that the easiest way to hit a business with an attack is through its users – especially if they’re working from home.

Increased endpoint risk

The sudden and drastic rise in remote working means many more people working in home environments on laptops and desktop computers that might be outside the normal confines and control of a business network.

An unfortunate, but not unexpected, byproduct of the Coronavirus pandemic is that scammers are exploiting the lockdown to cash in.

These machines – known as ‘endpoints’ – are often more vulnerable to attack even under normal working conditions.

Accordingly, this means a significantly increased ‘attack interface’ for hackers to target.

Help at hand

Alliance Solutions is a specialist IT security and support provider. We’re not working on the front-line saving lives, but we’re working through the Coronavirus crisis to support businesses with their changed work patterns and help ensure they can continue working operations.

ConnectWise MDR™ Endpoint Protection

We use a solution called ConnectWise MDR™ Endpoint Protection to help small and medium businesses protect their computers against security threats, provide remediation and detect and respond to incidents.

Using this solution, we can monitor your computers, whether remote or in a business network environment, detecting malicious threats and quickly remediating every attack.

The result is a significant reduction in your cybersecurity risk level.

How it works

Through our partnership with global security technology provider ConnectWise, we have access to a 24/7 global Security Operations Centre (SOC) service.

The SOC monitors the internet constantly, detecting new ransomware attacks as well as other cyberthreats as they emerge around the world.

As quickly as they develop, remediation services can be released to mitigate and minimise active threats. It’s a comprehensive service backed by a $1m ransomware warranty in case of the very unlikely event that ConnectWise cannot protect or remediate your endpoints against ransomware.

No need for internal security expertise: we do it all

Through its patented Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) technology, ConnectWise MDR™ Endpoint Protection provides threat detection, prevention, response and remediation capabilities. The solution covers Windows, Mac and Linux operating system environments as well as virtualized servers in AWS, VMWare, Citrix, VirtualBox, and Hyper-V.

Threat detection

Quickly spots thousands of virus and malware attack types and variants. Also picks up the root causes of these malicious activities by quickly identifying corrupt processes and system settings.

Once any threats are detected, the ConnectWise MDR™ innovative prevention technology instantly provides insights into the sources and root causes as well as reversing the malicious operations of ransomware.

Response & remediation

Having detected a malicious attack or behaviour pattern, ConnectWise MDR™ quickly rolls back affected files to earlier versions by tracking changes on the endpoint devices and restoring them to a previous, safe state.
