Virtual Desktops
Using a virtual computer
A virtual desktop is a method of accessing an office connected computer using the keyboard, mouse and screen of a remote computer. Any applications running (such as Microsoft Word for example) are running on the computer to which the user has connected.
No files need to leave the company network when using this method which make it a good option if workers are using their own home computers.
The way the virtual desktop is implemented depends on a number of factors. The options are:
- A worker can access their office computer remotely
- A virtual desktop is implemented using a server that can support multiple users simultaneously
- A virtual desktop is implemented in the cloud using a public remote desktop service.
